San Carlos Life Science Campus

RSM Design contributed to the San Carlos Life Science Campus — a dynamic life science and biotechnology hub in San Carlos, California that includes the Alexandria Center for Life Science and surrounding research and lab facilities. Set across a multi‑building, multi‑parcel campus, the project called for a comprehensive environmental graphic and wayfinding system that would unify the identity of a complex research environment and elevate the user experience. RSM Design developed a cohesive brand presence and wayfinding strategy, including signage and parking garage graphics that serve as key arrival elements, drawing from abstract patterning that references the scientific context and biotech focus of the campus. Working closely with the real estate team, architects, and landscape consultants, the design team delivered an integrated graphic system that supports clarity, movement, and a strong sense of place across the campus.

Beyond functional signage, the design approach emphasized a refined visual identity that strengthens connections between visitors, researchers, and the built environment. RSM Design’s wayfinding strategy was grounded in stakeholder engagement and research to establish solutions that guide both vehicular and pedestrian movement intuitively throughout the life science labs and research facilities. The resulting graphics program balances modern aesthetic language with scientific references, helping to reinforce the campus’s mission‑driven atmosphere while enabling users to navigate with confidence and ease.
