A Bold Identity for an Eclectic Food Hall

Rodeo 39 began with the transformation of an existing commercial building along State Route 39 in Stanton, California. Rather than constructing something entirely new, the project focused on renewing a familiar structure and giving it a new role within the community. What once functioned as a typical retail building was reimagined as a lively public market designed to attract visitors and contribute fresh energy to the surrounding neighborhood.
RSM Design worked with Almquist to develop the brand identity for the destination, including the name, logo, and visual character. The market hall brings together an eclectic mix of tenants, including food and beverage vendors, a brewery, a flower shop, and a tattoo parlor, creating a layered experience that reflects the creative spirit of the area. The name Rodeo 39 captures both the energy and the location of the project. “Rodeo” suggests movement and excitement, while “39” references the nearby state route that anchors the destination within its local context.
As the design developed, Stanton’s strict signage code limited the size and number of traditional signs allowed on the property. In response, RSM Design identified several large, empty wall surfaces on the building and transformed them into murals that function as both art and wayfinding. The murals, designed and hand-painted in house by the RSM Design team, span more than 2,500 square feet across the building’s exterior. Each mural serves a specific role, from announcing the project along the boulevard to guiding visitors with directional graphics and drawing attention to the entrance with a bold burst of color. Together, they help the renewed building stand out while contributing character to the surrounding streetscape.

At Rodeo 39, RSM Design turned empty wall space into something purposeful. Large-scale murals pull people toward the food hall and quietly guide them once they’re inside. Each piece was designed to feel integrated with the space, adding character while helping orient the experience.
The RSM Design team were on site painting the murals themselves, carrying the work from concept through installation. Watch the video to see how it all came together.
