On a quiet corner of Banker’s Hill, a century old church watched its neighborhood grow more polished and urban, yet still hungry for places that felt personal. When the church set out to create a neighborhood hangout and market, they sought a brand that balanced sophistication with an easy, welcoming spirit. The challenge was to weave the church’s history into a fresh, food forward narrative that felt neither nostalgic nor heavy. It needed the warmth of a European side street cafe, paired with the relaxed rhythm of Downtown San Diego.

Our team approached the project like uncovering a story hidden in the walls. We remixed the site’s historic character into a modern identity, using goldleaf inspired details, classic cafe cues, and updated typographic references to shape the brand. These elements came to life through the logotype, window graphics, and facade signage, creating touches that felt instantly familiar. The result is a bridge between old and new, a church neighbor reimagined as the community’s next gathering place. In short, it brings the spirit of a classic European cafe to Banker’s Hill.
