An Evergreen Park System Shaped by Frisco's Past
Client City of Frisco
Landscape Design Workshop
RSM Design is partnering with the City of Frisco to develop a comprehensive wayfinding system for Grand Park, a sprawling greenspace in the heart of Frisco, Texas. Currently in Phase 1 of an eventual 1,000-acre, four-mile stretch, the park represents an exciting long-term vision for the community. Guided by the team’s four principles—Play, Explore, Discover, Connect—the signage invites visitors to engage with the park as an unfolding experience.
Frisco’s industrial and railroad heritage served as the conceptual foundation, with monument signage constructed from railroad rail profiles and wayfinding elements drawing their form from structural I-beams, balanced by a light, airy palette that ties the system to its surroundings.
Sign content lives on removable panels, allowing the system to evolve as the park grows, while hidden “easter egg” moments of interpretive content reward curious visitors with unexpected discoveries that deepen their connection to Frisco’s history and community.
The "Frisco" railroad operated for 104 years across nine states, earning a beloved reputation for iconic locomotives, excellent passenger and freight service, and a vital role in America's growth before merging with Burlington Northern in 1980.
Frisco Railroad History
The signage borrows directly from the rails of the railroad, turning industrial form into design language.
On the backside of the wayfinding signage, RSM Design developed a set of “easter egg” moments throughout the park.
