Wayfinding designed to connect people with their environment
At Amazon’s second headquarters in Arlington, Virginia, Metropolitan Park sets a new standard for urban campuses—merging work, community, and nature. RSM Design led the development of a comprehensive wayfinding system that unifies the 22-story towers, retail, bike lanes, and expansive public green spaces into a seamless, intuitive experience. The signage strategy responds to a wide range of users, guiding them clearly and efficiently while adapting to the site’s evolving functions and anchor destinations.
Extending beyond navigation, the system creates meaningful connections between people and place. In the 2.5-acre park, dog run, and family-friendly areas, signage invites exploration and encourages interaction with the natural environment. Interpretive elements highlight local biodiversity, deepening visitors’ engagement with the landscape. The result is a thoughtful, user-focused design that supports Amazon’s vision and enriches the daily experience at the heart of Arlington.
Wayfinding signage and spatial cues make the space feel accessible and welcoming, fit for a first time visitor.
Understanding the distinct intentions and needs of every visitor
